Web site up and running!

Hi Everyone -

It's official - after almost a week of tweaking, THIS web site is up and running! (I've been at myspace.com/nathenaswell since August, and will keep that site going too.) WOOHOO! BIG thanks to Tom Carter for sending me all of the CD's images via e-mail in every conceivable size and format, until they all worked. Tom, you truly ARE a mensch!

Inspiring and healing through music

Hi Everyone -

Performed tonight at St. Andrew's-Wesley Church in downtown Vancouver with Curt Allison, a Pentacostal fella originally from the southern U.S. What a pleasure it is to make joyful music - music that inspires and heals people. That's what I'm all about, and I'm delighted that my musical life is reflecting this more and more. AMEN!

Mixing, mastering, and graphics

Hi Everyone -

Well - what a sweet week and a half it's been. Can't begin to tell you what it was like to mix and master shoulder-to-shoulder with Miles Foxx Hill, and to have him tell me how much he liked my tunes and the quality of my recordings. YAY!

AND I've been playing in the VISUAL sandbox (on the CD's graphics) with Tom Carter. The finished CD is going to look and sound incredible, and I'm VERY pleased. I delivered the CD master and all of the graphics to Sonrise Audio today - delivery will be on or around Dec. 5th. ALLELUIA!

Final prep

Hi Everyone -

Amongst other things (my retreat, and gigs of all kinds), I've busied myself in the past month with the final preparations for mixing my CD: re-recording some things, deleting some things (painful process!), tightening up performances, converting MIDI files to audio files, and making my ProTools tracks Logic-compatible. AND - I'm ready for mixing! LET'S GO!

Photo Shoot

Hi Everyone -

Tom Carter and I shot photos today for the CD, and had a GREAT deal of fun doing it. Can't wait to sort through all of the images!

Retreat

Hi Everyone -

Just got back from my 3rd week-long meditation retreat. (My first was in October of 2005, and my second was in February of this year.) WOW. My heart got blown open with the realization that Buddhism is NOT about THINKING a different way - it's all about living from the HEART. Not a new idea, AND I've never felt the lesson in my body - in my heart - before. VERY powerful.

I think that I know what my second CD will be about - AND I'm getting ahead of myself!

With love and gratitude,
- Nathen

Phase Two completed

Hi Everyone -

Phase two - recording some very special guests for my CD - is completed. Here's the list:

Shawn Soucy - drums on one tune
Daryl Jahnke - guitar on one tune
Phil Robertson - drums on five tunes
Linda Kidder - vocals on one tune
Finn Manniche - cello on one tune
Andreas Schuld - guitars on two tunes
Lauri Lyster - percussion on one tune

The spirit of the CD remains intact, AND the musicianship and open-heartedness of these fine souls has taken the project to a whole new level. BIG thanks to all.

With love and gratitude,
- Nathen

Phase Two

Hi Everyone -

Sorry for the silence - my wife Sheila and I were away from Aug. 27th until Sept. 8th, and I've been busy dealing with a lot of things (musical and otherwise) since our return.

AND Phase two of my CD - improving some tracks by enlisting the help of some talented friends - is well underway. Today, Finn Maniche played cello on one tune. (His playing was SO beautiful that it was all I could do not to cry as I recorded him!) Just some guitar tracks remain.

Music clips now online

Hi Everyone -

I just put clips of four of my tunes online:

Do That Thing - A celebration of being in the body and in the moment, and of doing what we love.

Be Still - An invitation to make space in our lives for meditation.

Choose Love - Inspired by "Emmanuel's Book II: The Choice For Love" (by Pat Rodegast & Judith Stanton), my favourite book of all time.

Psalm 96 - A song of gratitude for nature, inspired by singing during a winter walk on a frozen lake in St. Agathe, Quebec, and discovering my voice echoing off the surrounding hills...!

Let me know what you think. Enjoy.

With love and gratitude,
- Nathen

Welcome!

Hi Everyone -

Welcome to my blog!

I've been hard at work on my first CD, "Little By Little", for the past several months, and hope to have it in its final form October-ish. Within a few days, I'll have my song lyrics and short clips of my demos on my web site (www.nathenaswell.com). Please give them a look and a listen, and let me know what you think.

With love and gratitude,
- Nathen
