BIG thanks to all of you who wrote to me to share your thoughts and feelings about what HELPS you to say YES to a limitless life and KEEP the floodgates open. (I’ve posted them all on the “Feedback” page of my web site, www.NathenAswell.com.)
My commitment to saying YES continues - and, as it does, my awareness of the tools that HELP me to do so is increasing. In March, I talked about FAITH; in April, I talked about PERSEVERANCE. This month, I’m noticing (and celebrating!) both COMMUNITY and SOLITUDE.
I’ve always been a “self-starter” kind of guy. The gift in this is that I get things DONE, both for myself and for others; the challenge in this is ALLOWING the wisdom and experience of others to be a part of MY process! Thankfully, I’m getting better at asking for help - NONE of us can be great at EVERYTHING - and, as a result, things are getting done much more quickly and easily, and I’m having a lot more FUN. YES, YAY, and AMEN!
AND, I’m also making sure to enjoy time in silence… To stop, to meditate, to breathe in the beauty that surrounds and envelops my beautiful floating home (or wherever I may be)… To ground myself.
BLESSED and GRATEFUL am I for the gifts of COMMUNITY and SOLITUDE.

BIG thanks to all of you who wrote to me to share your thoughts and feelings about what prevents you from saying YES and KEEPING the floodgates open. (I’ve posted them all on the “Feedback” page of my web site, www.NathenAswell.com.)
My commitment to saying YES continues, and I’m now pondering the opposite question: What HELPS me to say YES to a limitless life and to KEEP the floodgates open?
FAITH, as I mentioned last month, is an important tool in my toolbox, and I’m happy to have reclaimed it and to be making a conscious effort to more fully develop it. What I’m noticing (and celebrating!) this month is PERSEVERANCE.
A quick search online led me to some powerful definitions for perseverance: (1) Steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. (2) Continuance in a state of grace leading finally to a state of glory.
I’m now in the fourth month of my year-long commitment/experiment to create a new song and a new chant every month, and my steadfastness to doing so is most definitely resulting in a state of grace: the volume of my “inner judge” that says that I’m not creative is diminishing (how can that be true when there’s mounting evidence to the contrary?); my songs and chants are coming to me more easily; recording them is getting more and more fun; and I’m noticing that I’m happier than I’ve ever been (I literally now have moments where I stop to laugh out loud!) and that I “don’t sweat the small stuff” like I used to… Leading finally to a state of glory? Sounds GREAT to me! Count me IN! :-)

BIG THANKS to Rev. Glenn and Martha Mosley at Unity of Vancouver, Rev. Terry Shea at CSL White Rock, my dear pal Russell Marsland, and my new friends in the “Chanting and Chocolate” ensemble for being a rich part of my journey. XO
- Noticing how the gift of perseverance is blessing ALL aspects of my creative process, including drawing other like-hearted artists into my life and developing co-writing relationships with them. BIG THANKS to Jana Stanfield, JD Martin, Robert Anderson, Karen Drucker, Sue K Riley, Glen Roethel, and Jennifer Ferren for “playing in the sandbox” with me and for teaching me many important lessons. XO

Hi Everyone -
Warm greetings and blessings to you all!
May you be filled with lovingkindness.
May you be safe and protected from all inner and outer dangers.

BIG thanks to all of you who wrote to me to share your thoughts and feelings about saying YES and “opening wide the floodgates”. (I’ve posted them all on the “Feedback” page of my web site, www.NathenAswell.com.)
My commitment to saying YES continues, AND there are times when I can’t seem to KEEP the floodgates open wide… Why is that? What’s missing from my understanding?
Last October, a dear friend of mine gifted me with a set of CDs that she’d made for me of radio broadcasts of Ernest Holmes. Driving to and from Portland OR in February presented the perfect opportunity to give them the time and attention they deserved, so I took them with me… And I’m very glad I did, because they provided an important answer: FAITH.
For years, I’ve thought of LOVE as the opposite of fear; Holmes states that it is FAITH.
In the “The Science Of Mind”, Holmes says that fear is “nothing more or less than the negative use of faith”, and that all fears “arise from the belief that God is not all that we claim: Omniscience, Omnipotence, and Omnipresence.”
The solution? 1) “If we are to have an active faith - the faith OF God instead of merely a faith IN God - our thought must be centered in Universal Mind. We are convinced that under Divine Law all things are possible, if we only BELIEVE, and work in conformity with the principles of that Law. 2) Such a faith does not spring full-orbed into being, but grows by knowledge and experience. No matter what the outside appearance, we must cling steadfastly to the knowledge that God is good, and God is all, underneath, above and round that.”
And so… my daily prayer now becomes “In FAITH, I surrender this day to Perfect Love (my expression for God). May all that I think, all that I say, and all that I do be an expression of Perfect Love… For God is good and God is ALL.”
AMEN!

As I travel more and more, my appreciation for my relationship with Sheila and for our magnificent floating home grows. Both truly ARE grounding me AND teaching me to live “in the flow” - and I am very, very grateful to be able to live in the middle of that delicious paradox.
And so - feeling both grounded and in the flow - I’m ready for something new.
I’ve started reading Ernest Holmes’ “Science Of Mind”, and these words are really exciting me:
“Here and now, we are surrounded by, and immersed in, an Infinite Good. How much of this Infinite Good is ours? ALL OF IT! And how much of It may we have to use? AS MUCH OF IT AS WE CAN EMBODY.”
WOW! NO LIMITS!

It sure seems that way; since the beginning of this year, I’ve been “trying this on” - inspired by Holmes’ words, my new mantra has been “open wide the floodgates” - and truly amazing things are happening within me (a deep sense of calm and purpose) and around me (as you’ll see in my “Report” below) with ease and grace. Life is an adventure, so I’m going to keep saying YES to this “experiment” and see what happens!

Here are my highlights from the last two months or so:
- Performing at a WIDE variety of local Christmas-season events (Christmas In The Round, Oppenheimer Christmas Dinner, Unity of Vancouver’s Candlelighting Service, CSL White Rock’s Christmas Eve Service, Christmas Caroling at Delta Hospital on Christmas Day, Kirtan on New Year’s Eve with Amir, and on my own on New Year’s Day at St. Paul’s Labyrinth). BIG thanks to ALL of the talented folks involved in these events; it gives me great joy to make music with each of you. XO
- Performing and recording in Atlanta with my good friend and co-writing buddy Jennifer Ferren, and with my dear friend Penelope Williams and her talented crew at Spiritual Living Center of Atlanta. THANKS, dear friends; I LOVED my first taste of the south, and I look forward to returning as soon (and as often) as I can! XO
- Co-writing, performing, and enjoying a million OTHER kinds of rich moments at this year’s Posi Music Festival In Orlando. (I even managed to “sneak out” in the middle of the weekend and have a fantastic time performing at First Unity of St. Petersburg!) I am truly blessed to be a part of the tribe that gathers annually for this event, and truly grateful to Sue Riley & Richard Mekdeci and their tireless team for ALL that they do to make this dream a reality. Much, MUCH love to you all. XO
- Performing at a House Concert in Snohomish, WA with my new friend and great singer/songwriter Larry Murante. THANKS to Mike Morales, mutual friend and host who had the vision to bring Larry and me together, and to Larry for a fantastic night of music making!
- Performing at Seattle Unity with the uber-talented (and VERY funny!) Erin McGaughan and her terrific crew. THANKS, dear Erin; let’s do this again, and SOON! :-)
- Performing at a House Concert in White Rock, BC. THANKS to Shirley Henderson for hosting it, and to many of her neighbours for saying YES to a new adventure! :-)
- Writing and performing a new song for Rev. Terry Shea’s new monthly Satsang, and writing and performing a new song for Rev. Terry’s Sunday Service (both at CSL White Rock). My intention is to write one new chant and one new song every month of this year, so TWO new CDs are being born! Thanks, dear Terry, for always inspiring me! XO
- Performing at Lorne Mallin’s “Chanting And Chocolate”. Hebrew chanting - wow! THANKS, dear Lorne, for the invitation to make music with you and to learn more about this beautiful music and language. :-)

As I travel more and more, my appreciation for my relationship with Sheila and for our magnificent floating home grows. Both truly ARE grounding me AND teaching me to live “in the flow” - and I am very, very grateful to be able to live in the middle of that delicious paradox.
