May you be safe and protected from all inner and outer dangers.

THIS MONTH’S TOPIC
For a while now, it’s been clear to me that the name of the game, the purpose of this existence, is to remember who and what we truly are – sparks of God – and to forgive ourselves when we forget. A big part of being human is forgetting, AND I’m always trying to “improve my batting average” and remember the truth more often.
Here in the northern hemisphere – where it’s currently the middle of summer – I’ve noticed a wonderful 3-step process that we all go through at this time of year (or while on vacation) that enables us to remember the truth and be fuller expressions of ourselves. I call it “Relax, Renew, and Recalibrate”.
Relax: We allow ourselves to rest more and/or to move more slowly, and we “unwind”.
Renew: In this relaxed state, we allow ourselves to have new experiences.
Recalibrate: The new experiences teach us things about ourselves. Some of the lessons are so powerful/enjoyable that they change us, and we choose to integrate the change(s) into our daily lives.
The good news is, we don’t have to wait until summer or vacation time to experience this process.
Haven’t we all felt it in simple moments, like after sleeping in on a weekend morning, or after enjoying a lazy afternoon with a good book?
Or after a long walk, run, or bike ride?
Or after a long soak in a bath, hot tub or sauna?
I take this a step further in my latest talk/workshop, “Summertime, and the Livin’ Is EASY: 3 Steps to a Happier Life”, in which I lead groups in experiencing this 3-step process IMMEDIATELY!
I invite you to try it yourself:
1) Relax: Take some deep breaths. Stretch. Yawn. Laugh. (You might be “faking” the laughter when you begin, AND it will soon become genuine – believe me!)
2) Renew: In your relaxed state, allow yourself to have a new experience. It could be anything at all, AND I invite you to try something that’s both small and 180 degrees away from your “normal”. (Here are a couple of examples: If your day is filled with people and activity, try spending some time in solitude and silence… Or, if the opposite is true, try that.
If you normally take care of everyone else first, put yourself first…
Or, if the opposite is true, try that.)
3) Recalibrate: Notice how you feel about the experience you’ve just had. What did you learn from it? How has it changed you? How will you integrate that change into your daily life?
I see this 3-step process as a way of cultivating Perfect Self-Expression – as I’ve mentioned in several of my recent newsletters, part of the “square of life” written about in Florence Scovel Shinn’s book, “The Game Of Life” (health, wealth, love and perfect self-expression).
Or, more simply put, I believe that every small 180-degree shift that you try will help you to regain a 360-degree view: that “It’s ALL God, and it’s ALL Good”.
YES, YAY and AMEN!
Bring it ON!
So – with gratitude and curiosity – I eagerly say YES to Relax, Renew, and Recalibrate.
In honour of Relax, Renew and Recalibrate, I offer you my song “Be Still”, from my “Little By Little” CD; may it serve you well.
