April '09 Newsletter

April 17, 2009 by Nathen Aswell

Hi Everyone –

Warm greetings and blessings to you all!

May you be filled with lovingkindness.

May you be safe and protected from all inner and outer dangers.

May you be well in body and mind.

May you be at ease and happy.

April: For me, it’s been about deepening what began last month (making new commitments and rediscovering the importance of ritual.) My daily NS Stick practising (http://www.stick.com/instruments/ns/) has been grounding me and leading me into exciting new musical territory, and I was blessed to take part in a very powerful weekend that was rich in ritual (http://www.mkp.org/). Life is GOOD! With that, I offer you a video entitled “What One Can Do” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTYrP651BEE), featuring the song “Do All You Can” by my dear friends Lori Sandstrom and Robert Anderson, known collectively as Devotion (www.devotionsings.com); may it inspire you as deeply as it inspires me. (If you have suggestions for inspirational media to include in a future newsletter, please drop me a line at nathenaswell@me.com.)

REPORT

Here are my highlights from the last month or so:

– Making music at the ANTN Conference in Scottsdale AZ (http://www.newthought.org/) with “Soul Co-op”, featuring Marcy Baruch (acoustic guitar and vocals), Rev. Pattie Weber (bandleader, keyboard and vocals), Rita Harrington (drums, percussion, acoustic guitar and vocals) and me (NS Stick and vocals). I also got to perform again with my dear colleague Michael Stillwater – ALWAYS a heart-opening experience! – and make many new friends in the New Thought community.

– Having my pal Shawn Soucy (drums, percussion, vocals) join me for both my regular Kirtan night (at East West Yoga) and Amir’s Kirtan night (at Yoga on 7th).

– Celebrating Easter by making music at the Centre for Spiritual Living in White Rock with the incredible Diane Lines (keyboard and vocals).

I feel RICHLY blessed to be able to make music with such beautiful and talented people. BIG THANKS to all! 🙂

UPCOMING PERFORMANCES

BIG NEWS:

– My next House Concert will be here in Vancouver on April 26th, and I’ll be sharing the bill with the legendary Jane Mortifee. (There’s already a waiting list! Details below.)

– This summer (Aug. 29-Sept. 5), my family is gathering in P.E.I. to celebrate my mom’s 75th birthday. The week after that (Sept. 6-11), I’m hoping to put together a little Eastern Canada “tour” (Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto). If you have any suggestions for venues (or living rooms – I LOVE House Concerts!), please drop me a line at nathenaswell@me.com.

Here’s what my CALENDAR looks like in the coming month. I’d be honoured to see you at any of these events. (AND please remember that I welcome any and all opportunities to serve you with my music; just e-mail me with your ideas at nathenaswell@me.com.)
